Land Lane
Colour that unfolds with the seasons
The lane opens with a statement: a 20-metre mimosa tree from Myanmar, its branches erupting in clouds of yellow, champagne-bubble flowers from December to March — a true rarity, and a spectacular way to begin. Behind it, a rock formation trickles with water through much of the year as the path leads you past giant oaks, billowing ornamental rhododendrons, red bottlebrush, and the peeling, patterned bark of camouflage and paper eucalyptus.
The road turns to reveal the protected rainforest from below — keep an eye out for pheasant and red squirrel — before opening onto the original swampland of the neighbouring farm. From here the path continues its generosity: long lines of Red Robin trees, azaleas, Pieris, bamboo, giant Olearia specimens (seek them out in bloom for the honey scent alone), and in season, a sea of camellias as far as you can walk. The path circles you back to the start.
